Erica Corbett
IMP Evaluation Consultant
I am an internationally trained midwife. I studied in an apprentice model in Rwanda, South Africa, and the United States, where I was privileged to learn from Indigenous midwives of these countries. This hands-on learning has given me a depth of experience for which I am deeply grateful. Attending births in out-of-hospital settings has shown me the difference family-centred, community-based care can make to both short- and long-term outcomes. I am currently working to have my midwifery education and experience recognized in Canada.
I have a background in maternal-neonatal epidemiology and clinical research consulting, and enjoy melding my love of telling stories through data with midwifery.
In Fall 2023, I joined the Innu Midwifery Program as the Evaluation Consultant and have been working with the team to develop a uniquely Innu data collection and program evaluation plan.
My two children are a great joy in my life, and my journey of parenting them has deepened my trust in traditional wisdom and healing, and in people as the experts in their own bodies. I am honoured to work with the Innu Midwifery Program toward bringing birth back to Sheshatshiu and Natuashish.
