PROGRAM PARTNERS

The Innu Midwifery Program is made possible through the allyship and support of program partners and affiliate midwifery organizations. Click partner names to learn more.

INNU ROUND TABLE SECRETARIAT

The Innu Midwifery Program receives administrative, funding, staffing, and program support from the IRT Sec who generously provide the IMP with clinical space. Partnership with the IRT Sec ensures that the IMP is responsive and culturally rooted in the Innu communities it serves.

Memorial University

Labrador Campus

The IMP has been partnered with Memorial University's Medical Simulation (SIM) Lab since 2025. IMP students attend weekly SIM Lab sessions to enhance hands-on learning and partner with other faculties for interprofessional development and co-learning opportunities.

INDIGENOUS SERVICES CANADA

The IMP is supported federally through the Addressing Anti-Indigenous Racism in Health Care Initiative, which provides funding to Indigenous communities to develop or expand community-based Indigenous midwifery services, including Indigenous midwifery education.

Dr. Kelly Monaghan, of Clinic 215 in St. John's, offers regular reproductive healthcare workshops to the Innu student midwives.

Additionally, clinical placements at Clinic 215 offer IMP students the opportunity to deepen their clinical skills through hands on learning.

NL Health Services

Labrador Grenfell

The IMP works in partnership with Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (Labrador Grenfell Zone) to ensure collaboration across the maternity care continuum.

Locum midwives working with the IMP maintain hospital privileges at Labrador Health Centre.

TEam Broken Earth

In May 2026, Team Broken Earth hosted two Innu student midwives in Uganda for an international medical mission focused on women's and children's health, allowing the students to apply and practice their clinical midwifery skills.
