NOREEN ANDREW

INNU MIDWIFERY STUDENT - YEAR 2

My name is Noreen Andrew, I am 32 years old as well as a mom of six to four boys and two girls.

Midwifery inspired me because my grandmother was a traditional midwife, she used to help women birth in the country in tents back in the day. Her sister in-law and her mother taught her how to deliver babies when she was young.  I want to help bring back birth in our

communities, help support women and families with

their deliveries and babies. I feel like supporting

them will make a difference in their own birth and postpartum experience.

Having a midwife during the pregnancy and birth will make a difference becauseI never had anyone to support me.

My own past pregnancies and deliveries were hard as I also didn’t feel like I had support.  I wasn’t educated about pregnancy, birth or being prepared about labour.

The hospital didn’t make me feel safe and my feelings weren’t taken into consideration.

“Becoming a midwife is my purpose in life and I’m looking forward to support my community”
